Because of a lack of funding, the Avid program at a local high school is forced to sell food and snacks to raise money for it's programs.  The Avid program is specifically designed to help students from various backgrounds get into college and they are forced to raise whatever money they can through the students, to achieve this goal.  It would seem that a program like Avid would receive what they needed to function successfully in their pursuits in helping students become college bound, but this is not the case.

  1. Sean,

This is so sad. Its unfortunate that the school does not have funding for the AVID program. Im not sure but I believe that AVID is either state funded or federally funded. I wonder what happened to the funding that is supposed to be set aside for AVID. Hopefully the AVID students can come up with the money they need to finance there own education.

It pains me to say that last sentence

    Thank you for sharing!

  2. Yes very sad. Don't know what to say... Everybody has the right to have the best education, and it is not fair that the budget cuts go against the people that need more resources.

  3. This is very upsetting. Having an AVID program in school is a huge motivation tool to help students progress their education. Having no funding for such a program hinders students for sure. I do however commend these students for not giving up and trying to keep the program running.

  4. Good call, Sean. That is definitely a shame that the students have to pay for little things like snacks just to help AVID get the funding it really needs. A setup like that should only be there to provide extra funding, not the necessary funding AVID needs.
